Archiproducts Design Award for Jabara

WE ARE HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THAT, AFTER THE PRESTIGIOUS RED DOT DESIGN AWARD 2018, RITZWELL'S JABARA SIDEBOARD DESIGNED BY SHINSAKU MIYAMOTO HAS BEEN ASSIGNED ANOTHER IMPORTANT AWARD: THE ARCHIPRODUCTS DESIGN AWARD FOR THE FURNITURE SECTION.

Created in 2016, the award seeks to reward the products that best represent the essence of contemporary design and to bring them to the attention the users of Archiproducts platform. Archiproducts has become a true point of reference for the work of Italian and international architects alike. The jury, which is composed of important representatives of international architecture and design - including, among others, India Mahdavi, Ramón Esteve, Mario Bellini, Paola Navone, Vudafieri Saverino Partners, noa* – network of architecture, Masquespacio, Benedetta Tagliabue, Carlo Ratti, Sam Baron, Mario Cucinella - guarantees the authority of the award.

Jabara sideboard was awarded the prestigious prize thanks to its peculiar characteristics. The furniture is much more than just a ‘physically-present’ piece of contemporary design. It has been envisaged as a ‘sensory experience’, arousing nostalgia for the past and deeply-rooted sentiments. The "energy" that emerges from the unusual cut of the heartwood processed by the able hands of the master cabinet-makers, gives a reassuring appearance to the ensemble. The elegant sliding doors were inspired by Japanese styles, clearly visible in the traditional slim vertical lines of the yoshido doors decorated with a sequence of cane elements, traditionally used in summer in older urban homes, as well as in the Sagano bamboo forest in Kyoto. The delightful ‘heaviness’ and the comforting sound of wood rubbing as the doors slide bring Japanese traditional homes and the shoji doors into focus. Like magic, sliding doors lead to curiosity and a powerful login for articles from the past; these are destined to last and are always treated with respectful care and attention. Ritzwell’s primary objective is to create a close emotional bond between the piece of furniture in the home and the occupant: something simple is therefore transformed into a tiny gem for everyday use. This dignified ‘crafted jewel’ is embellished further in the natural tones of hide, processed with plant extracts, used to cover the drawer frontals. A hint of padding adds an additional touch of softness to this delightful piece. Jabara recalls how japanese culture and sensibility play a fundamental role in the creation of all Ritzwell collections by Shinsaku Miyamoto, designer and creative director of the brand.
